• Android Google Podcasts redesign rolling out slowly to users
• Unexpected Joy Project: A podcast that features you! Anyone can record a snippet that they’ll feature in a podcast. What joy have you experienced lately during COVID-19?
• Podcast Movement has shared their plan to handle coronavirus – if that’s still a prevalent issue come August 2020.

Best Practice:

• Keep making content during this world-wide event. People are looking for something to listen to while they are locked down.

• The Indie Podcast Virtual Conference, this weekend, March 28-29, 2020. Blubrry is sponsoring this event and Todd is speaking on Saturday at 5PM EST, about RSS feeds.
• Remote recording demo. Earlier this week we released a demo video on how to make your podcast recording at home a bit easier. (Skype and Zoom)
• We’re looking to gather some more data on stats during COVID-19 before we release a full article. Please participate in our poll, here!

• A dedicated tab on your website is helpful and necessary on your website. This page assists with SEO and will more than likely, help you get on Google Podcasts quicker. Instructions on how to set up a ‘posts’ page on WordPress is here.
• Should you separate your blog posts from your podcast posts? Watch our video on how to do it and why you might not want to do it.
• Blubrry does not transcode media files. Wav files can be uploaded, but will not play. MP3 is the audio format of choice. Convert the file to mp3 before you upload it. (Video is mp4/m4v). What you upload is what we deliver. AAC (M4A) is not recommended. (Because of Spotify).
• Figuring out what plan you need:
  • 128kbps 48khz (or 44.1khz) MP3 is about 1MB per minute of audio.
  • 64kbps 48khz (or 44.1khz) MP3 is about 1/2MB per minute of audio.

• Don’t start a podcast! Well, obviously we’re kidding but we’ve gotta keep the humor going during times like these.
• COVID-19 update, we have PSAs available for podcasters to use on their show.
• Zencaster has removed their 8-hour free limit – now providing free accounts until July (In response to COVID-19).
• Amazon smart speakers lead the market in the US and will most likely stay that way.
• A new site, aiming to be “The Rotten Tomatoes of Podcasting”, called PodFavs.com. This could turn into something cool!
• Eventbrite, the popular ticketing company, is holding onto all ticket money from events. Not exactly a good look at this current time.

Best Practice:

• To practice social distancing, a remote recording is likely your best option for podcast interviews (at this time).  Audio quality might take a hit, but it will keep you safe AND keep your content releasing. There are a lot of ways to do this:
  • Skype
  • Zoom
  • Zencaster
  • Squadcast
  • GotoMeeting
  • Double Ender
  • Streamyard
  • Blubrry Pro-Production

• Show notes displays: They are different on each app and are hard to control overall. Dave, from our support team, is working hard to find out what part of the feed each app utilizes and displays; we’ll update you with results. Keep it simple and don’t give them a choice. Just put whatever you want to show everywhere in the post content area and then don’t worry about the apps.
• Google Podcasts: Again, they work differently than the other directories and apps.
